The specific name was proposed for Edward Shearman Ross [1915-], curator of insects at the California Academy of Sciences. Ross was at one time a specialist on

and later became interested in the taxonomy, biology, and evolution of
Embioptera
.
Distribution.
This species is known from many specimens collected in south-central Texas.
