Linnaeus, 1758 designated by Latreille (1810: 425). Etymology. From the Greek
elaphros
(nimble), probably alluding to the agility of the adults in the field [masculine].
Diversity.
Thirty-nine species in the arctic, subarctic, boreal, and temperate areas of North America (19 species) and Eurasia (24 species). These species are arrayed in five subgenera, all but
Sinoelaphrus
Shi and Liang (one species in northern China) represented in North America. Four species are Holarctic.
Identification.
Goulet (1983) revised the species then known and provided a key for their identification.
