DESCRIPTION OF
BOSEA PSYCHROTOLERANS
SP. NOV.
Bosea psychrotolerans
(psy.chro.to′ le.rans. Gr. adj.
psychros
, cold; L. pres. part.
tolerans
, tolerating; N.L. part. adj.
psychrotolerans
, cold-tolerating).
Cells are short rods, 2–3 µm long and 0.4–0.5 µm in diameter that occur singly or in pairs and
form rosettes
. Gramstain-negative. Isolated colonies on PCA after 48 h incubation at 25
Ǫ
C range from
0.5 to 1 mm
in diameter with an entire edge, flat and circular colony shape. Colonies have a tan colour and produce copious amount of extracellular material. Produces water soluble brown pigment when grown on PCA. The temperature growth range is 5–35
Ǫ
C, the pH growth range is 5.5 to 8.0, while the NaCl tolerance for growth was 0.0 to 1.4 % (w/v). Aerobic, motile, reduces nitrate, catalase-negative and oxidase-negative. Capsules not produced. Positive for use of
D-
glucose,
D-
fructose, cellobiose, D- xylose, D- galactose, D- arabinose, D- ribose, sodium gluconate, Tween 20, Tween 80, sodium citrate, leucine and valine as growth substrates, but not lactose, maltose,
D-
mannitol, D- rhamnose, raffinose, D- glycerol, sucrose, trehalose, D- inositol, sodium acetate, sodium propionate, L- lysine, L- histidine and
L-

sym
-homospermidine and ubiquinone Q-10 is the major compound in the quinone system. The polar lipid profile is composed of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine as major lipids, with moderate to minor amounts of phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids (AL1, AL2), one unidentified glycolipid (GL1) and two unidentified polar lipids (L1, L3) lacking a functional group.
The organism was isolated from a
Lake Michigan
potable water sample in south-eastern
Wisconsin
. Type strain 1131
T
has been deposited as
LMG 30034
and as
NRRL B- 65405
. The GenBank accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain 1131
T
is
MG687375
. The GenBank accession number for the entire genome of strain 1131
T
is PQFZ00000000. The DNA G+C content of strain 1131
T
is 66.65 mol%.
