Notes
Frequently reported from Greece, however, mainly on the basis of external and unreliable diagnostic characters. Species descriptions focusing on the maxillary apparatus and other unambiguous and size-independent characters have recently become available (
Carrera-Parra 2006
,
Martins et al. 2012
,
D'Alessandro
et al. 2016
). Therefore, re-examination of material could reduce the frequency of records and even reveal the presence of overlooked species. In the Mediterranean, the species is widely recorded (e.g.
Campoy 1982
,
Cinar
2005
,
Castelli et al. 2008
,
Ayari et al. 2009
,

,

). Otherwise distributed in the North-East Atlantic; its presumed cosmopolitan distribution is questionable (

).
