[[ Genus
Pseudolaguvia
]]
Members of the genus
Pseudolaguvia
are small erethistid catfishes that resemble members of the sisorid catfish genus
Glyptothorax
externally. The genus is only known from river drainages in the area bordered by the Ganges River drainage to the west and the Sittang River drainage to the east. Six species of
Pseudolaguvia
are considered valid (Ng, 2005):
P. ribeiroi (Hora
, 1921),
P. shawi (Hora
, 1921),
P. tuberculata (Prashad & Mukerji
, 1929),
P. kapuri (Tilak & Husain
, 1975),
P. tenebricosa Britz & Ferraris
, 2003 and
P. foveolata Ng
, 2005.
Examination of
Pseudolaguvia
material collected in Bangladesh revealed two distinct species found to be undescribed. The description of this material as
Pseudolaguvia inornata
new species
, and
Pseudolaguvia muricata
new species
, forms the basis of this study.
