Native to tropics and subtropics worldwide; widespread in S Europe, occasionally migrates to the North: Central Europe, British Isles, Ireland , Belgium , the Netherlands , Denmark , S Scandinavia, and Balticum. European part of Russia ( Slamka 2013 ), and Iran ( Gilan Province : Rudbar) ( Saeb 1999 ). Remarks. This species is a significant pest of nurseries and young trees in olive groves in Iran ( Saeb 1999 ). It has 4–5 generations per year at field conditions, and could overwinter as 2nd and 3rd larval instars ( Noori & Shirazi 2012 ). Genus Diaphania H̡bner, 1818
