Holotype
description
.
Head and thorax.
Structural features of head and thorax much as described above for
A. falcata
sp. nov.
, except pronotal disc without rugae, posterior margin of pronotum strongly concave, and forewings translucent.
Color.
Crown, anterior portion of pronotum, and mesonotum (
Fig. 33
) dark brown to black with dispersed, irregular yellow spots; disc of pronotum (
Fig. 33
) brown with green spots; mesonotum (
Fig. 33
) with yellow markings and white apex. Forewing (
Figs. 33–34
) translucent, except small yellow markings and small brown area at base; veins brown with yellow portions. Face (
Fig. 34
) dark brown to black; frons with three large, almost confluent whitish-yellow areas, two inferior and one superior. Lateral and ventral portions of thorax (
Fig. 34
) dark brown to black with large whitish-yellow areas; labium, labrum, and legs (
Fig. 34
) mostly yellow with brown portions.
FIGURES 33–40.
Acrogonia dentata
sp. nov.
33, body, male paratype (MNRJ), dorsal view (total length 9.6 mm); 34, body, male paratype, lateral view; 35–40, male genitalia: 35, pygofer, lateral view; 36, subgenital plates, ventral view (valve not depicted); 37, styles and connective, dorsal view; 38, aedeagus, lateral view; 39, aedeagus, ventral view; 40, anal tube (segment X only), lateral view. Scale bars: 35–37 = 1 mm; 38–40 = 0.5 mm.
Male genitalia.
Pygofer (
Fig. 35
), in lateral view, strongly produced posteriorly, expanded apically; dorsoapical margin forming lobe. Subgenital plate (
Fig. 36
), in ventral view, subtriangular; base with lateral projection directed anteriorly (central emarginate area between pair of projections covered by valve); basal third slightly expanded laterally, then tapering gradually towards apex; latter curved dorsally; without “articulated” portion; in lateral view, plate extending almost as far posteriorly as pygofer apex. Connective (
Fig. 37
), in dorsal view, T-shaped but with arms poorly developed, their combined size similar to expanded apex of stalk, so that it looks somewhat like an “I”; stalk narrow and very elongate, without dorsal median keel. Style (
Fig. 37
), in dorsal view, extremely elongate, extending posteriorly much farther than apex of connective, almost as far posteriorly as apex of subgenital plate; without distinct preapical or median lobe; apex acute. Aedeagus (
Figs. 38–39
) symmetrical; shaft elongate, bifid, curved dorsally, apical portions of rami expanded and armed with denticles. Anal tube (
Fig. 40
) without processes.
FIGURES 41–51.
Acrogonia dentata
sp. nov.
, female genitalia: 41–42, sternite VII, ventral view (macerated and unmacerated specimen, respectively); 43, valvifer I and valvula I, lateral view; 44, valvifers I and valvulae I, ventral view; 45, dorsal sculptured area; 46, apical portion of dorsal sculptured area; 47, ventral sculptured area; 48, valvula II, lateral view (basidorsal portion not depicted); 49, teeth at median portion of blade; 50, teeth at apical portion of blade; 51, apex and preapical prominence. Scale bars: 41 = 1 mm; 43, 44, 48 = 0.5 mm. VID = ventral interlocking device; VLB = ventral lobe.
Female
.
Genitalia.
Sternite VII (
Figs. 41–42
) bilobed; posterior margin with deep median emargination. Pygofer, in lateral view, produced posteriorly; apex obtuse. Valvifer I (
Figs. 43–44
), in lateral view, subrectangular. Valvula I (
Figs. 43–44
), in ventral view, slightly expanded basally; in lateral view (
Fig. 43
), with distinct ventral lobe (VLB) on basal half; ventral interlocking device (VID) short, located on basal half of blade; dorsal sculptured area (
Figs. 45–46
) extending from basal portion of blade to apex, formed mostly by scale-like processes arranged in oblique lines; ventral sculptured area (
Fig. 47
) restricted to apical portion, formed mostly by scale-like processes; blade apex acute, dentiform. Valvula II (
Fig. 48
), in lateral view, with dorsal margin convex; preapical prominence strong and apex obtuse, apical margin between them concave (
Figs. 48, 51
); about 14 teeth distributed continuously on posterior 2/3 of dorsal margin, most teeth (
Figs. 48–50
) triangular with ascending portion (= anterior edge) short, descending portion (= posterior edge) long; blade with ducts extending to apical portion and to teeth or terminating below latter. Gonoplac, in lateral view, with basal half narrow and apical half distinctly expanded; apex obtuse.
Intraspecific variation.
The disc of the pronotum may present green or yellow spots, or it may be more uniformly brown. The mesonotum may present only small yellow spots, or a transverse yellow area on scutellum, or a large yellow area on central portion of scutum and scutellum.
Etymology.
The name of the new species,
dentata
, refers to the denticles of the aedeagal rami (
Figs. 38–39
).
