Description . Lianas, with milky latex. Stems cylindrical, usually 2–3 mm in diameter, with scattered to sparse indumentum. Leaves opposite; petioles grooved along top, 2–4 cm , with scattered indumentum; leaf blades lanceolate-ovate, ovate or elliptic, usually 6–9 × 5.5 cm , adaxially dark green, glabrous or with scattered indumentum, abaxially pale green, with scattered indumentum particularly on veins, lateral veins 5 or 6 pairs, tertiary venation reticulate, base shallowly cordate to truncate, with 18–20 extrafloral nectaries, margin entire, apex acute or acuminate. Cymes extra-axillary, umbelliform to racemiform, up to 3 cm long; peduncle 7–15 mm , with scattered indumentum; bracts lanceolate-ovate, ca. 0.4–0.6 × 0.3 mm , with scattered to sparse indumentum. Flowers shallowly campanulate, ca. 18– 20 mm in diameter; pedicels 8–12 mm , with scattered indumentum; sepals lanceolate-ovate, 2.2–2.8 × ca. 1.4–2.2 mm , glabrous, ciliate; corolla yellow-green with red-brown longitudinal stripes on the lobes tube ca. 8–9 mm in diameter, lobes ovate, 5–5.4 mm long, 6.5–7 mm wide, almost glabrous; corolline corona consisting of 5 truncate ridges in the throat alternate with the lobes, staminal corona comprising 5 lobes adnate to staminal column below anthers, each lobe lanceolate-ovate to oblong, ca. 1.2 × 1.1 mm . Staminal column ca. 1.8 mm long and 2 mm in diameter; anther appendages triangular to truncate, ca. 0.4 mm long and 0.4 mm wide; slit between anther wings ca. 0.6 mm long, extending below anthers. Style head depressed-globose, ca. 0.8 mm in diameter. Ovaries ca. 1 mm long and 1 mm wide. Pollinarium ca. 0.5 mm long and 0.9 mm wide; pollinia narrow-oblong, ca. 0.35–0.45 mm long, 0.11–0.12 mm wide; corpusculum ca. 0.36 mm long and 0.1 mm wide; caudicles ca. 0.45 mm long, 0.02–0.03 mm wide, geniculate ca. 0.37 mm from corpusculum. Follicles subglobose, ca. 6.5 cm long and 6 cm wide, with wings on one side, wings ca. 1.2 cm wide. Seeds suborbicular, ca. 1.6 cm long, 1.5 cm wide, lacking a coma, venation obscure. Phenology . Flowering from May to July; ripe fruits from August to December. Distribution and habitat . Occurs widely in Malesia to the East coast of New Guinea , and rarely in China ( Guangdong ). Only one population was found in Guangdong Province by far, which grows by the river near the coastal estuary. The main accompanied species are Clerodendrum inerme (L.) Gaertn., Hibiscus tiliaceus L., Derris trifoliata Lour. , Acanthus ilicifolius L., Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud. , Acrostichum aureum L., Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms.
