Etymology.
This specific epithet denotes the long, erect setae on the appendages.
Diagnosis.
Metajalysus pilosus
(
Figs. 10–12
) is distinguished by the uniformly black head (except for the median and lateral carinae on the frons and vertex), extensively black abdomen, usually with only the ventral areas of segments 5–7 pale (except for a black ventral median line), the long femoral and tibial setae, and the distinct inverted V-shaped process (
Figs. 28–30
) on the male genital aperture.
This species is most similar to
M. horvathi
(
Figs. 7–9
) in having a similarly black head and markings on the abdomen. It differs from
M. horvathi
in having consistently longer setae on the antennae and legs, a distinct inverted V-shaped process on the genital aperture (
Figs. 28–30
), and a more stout down-curving arm on the parameres (
Fig. 31
).
