Ipomoea violacea
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
1
: 161. 1753
.
"Habitat in America meridionali." RCN: 1282.
Lectotype
(Manitz in
Feddes Repert.
88: 268, t. 34. 1977): [icon] in Plumier, Codex Boerhaavianus: tab. sub. No. 851. (University Library, Groningen).
Current name:
Ipomoea violacea
L.
(
Convolvulaceae
).
Note:
Shinners (in
Taxon
14: 104. 1975) stated that the name "must be typified with the plant of Plumier" but without explicitly treating the plate as type. Austin (in Woodson & Schery in
Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard.
62: 210. 1975) concluded that the typification was obscure, but
Manitz's
explicit type choice has been accepted by most recent authors.
