Scaphoideus rostratus
sp.nov.
(
Figs. 1
E, J, O, 3B, 8A–G)
Coloration and structure (
Figs. 1
E, J, O, 3B) similar to those of
albovittatus
Matsumura
, but slightly lighter in colour. Head narrower than pronotum, triangularly produced in front, bluntly angled, longer than inter-ocular width (
Figs. 1
E, 3B). Forewing with three reflexed veins, none basad of outer anteapical cell (
Fig. 1
E, J).
Male genitalia.
Pygofer in lateral aspect tapering posteriorly, with dorsal margin straight and ventral margin convexly rounded, with two subapical tufts of long setae in addition to scattered short setae (
Fig. 8
A, B). Valve semicircular. Subgenital plate triangular and broad basally, with single basal macroseta in addition to few hairlike setae (
Fig. 8
C). Style with anterior part broad, preapical lobe not developed, apical process strongly laterally curved and tapered to acute apex (
Fig. 8
C, D). Connective Y-shaped, arm well developed longer than stem; posterior processes in dorsal aspect of uniform width in basal half, triangularly widened before apex (apex broken in
holotype
and shape unknown) gradually narrowed to apex; in lateral aspect bent dorsally at base, then curved and directed ventad (
Fig. 8
C, E). Aedeagus with well developed dorsal apodeme, shaft robust and short, strongly compressed, with apex tapered and curved dorsally, gonopore apical on ventral surface (
Fig. 8
F, G).
Measurements.
Male
5.4mm
long,
1.1mm
wide across eyes.
Etymology.
The specific epithet ‘
rostratus
’ refers to the shape of apex of the aedeagal shaft from lateral view in this species.
Material examined.
1♂
, Yunnan Prov., Jiangcheng,
25April 1982
, Jin Gentao (SEM).
Remarks.
The new species is similar to
S. albovittatus
, but can be differentiated from the latter by the pygofer side short, 1.5 times as high as long (state length in
S. albovittatus
for comparison); aedeagal shaft strongly compressed and the width being 2/3 of the length (state length in
S. albovittatus
). The apices of the connective processes and one of the subgenital plates are broken near the tip in the
holotype
male.
