Rhopalovalva macrocuculla
Zhang and Li
,
sp. nov.
(
Figs. 1, 3, 5
)
Diagnosis.
Rhopalovalva macrocuculla
is similar in appearance to
R. rhombea
, but it can be distinguished by the cucullus larger than the base of the valva, nearly orthogonal dorsally; the ventrally blunt socius, about 2.5 times as long as the uncus; and the phallus constricted in the apical 1/4. In
R. rhombea
the cucullus is about as large as the base of the valva, somewhat rhomboid; the socius is about twice as long as the uncus; and the phallus is constricted in the apical 1/6.
Description.
Adult (
Fig. 1
).
Head
: Vertex with grayish yellow scales tufted between antennae; frons white. Antenna pale yellow. Labial palpus with outer surface grayish yellow mixed with brown, inner surface white; third segment minute, concealed in long scales of second segment.
Thorax
: Dorsum and tegula grayish yellow. Legs gray, with brown scales on tibiae and tarsi. Forewing length 5.0–6.0 mm; forewing elongate triangular; ground color grayish yellow, sprinkled with brown spots; apex protruded, falcate; termen concave below apex; basal patch produced into a dark gray short stria in costal 1/4 and a relatively long dark gray stria at 1/3 of dorsum; median fascia reduced to an inverse triangular light brown patch on costa; ocellus small, grayish yellow; costa with nine pairs of white strigulae from base to apex; strigulae 1–4 between base and the point where Sc meets costa; strigulae 5 and 6 between Sc and R1, each containing only one stria; distal three pairs distributed between pairs of veins R1– R2, R2–R3, and R3–R4 respectively; fringe grayish yellow, with brown subbasal line. Hindwing and fringe gray.
Abdomen
: Male genitalia (
Fig. 3
) with tegumen bearing a pair of slender sclerites on the outer side of uncus. Uncus clubbed. Socius broad and long, with nearly pointed termination, hairy, about 2.5 times as long as uncus. Valva broad at base, slightly concave ventrally, produced into broad neck; sacculus angle with a slender hairy lobe directed dorsad with rounded termination; cucullus hairy, larger than base of valva, nearly orthogonal dorsally, blunt ventrally. Phallus slender, curved ventrally, constricted in apical 1/4; cornuti undetected. Female genitalia (
Fig. 5
) with papillae anales nearly triangular, hairy; apophyses posteriores nearly as long as apophyses anteriores. Sternum VII weakly sclerotized. Ductus bursae slender; antrum funnel-shaped, occupying about half of ductus bursae. Ductus seminalis originating from intersection of ductus bursae and corpus bursae. Corpus bursae pearshaped, with two small conical signa, different in size.

Fig. 3
), and in the specimens from
Hainan Province
the socius is broad and long with a slightly rounded termination (
Fig. 3
a).
