Linnaean Plant Types and their Types 370 473 book chapter https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.291971 978-0-9506207-7-0 291971 Carum carvi Linnaeus var. peregrinum Linnaeus , Demonstr. Pl. Horto Upsaliensi : 8. 1753 , nom. inval. RCN: 2101. Type not relevant. Note: The protologue consists of the name " Carum peregrinum ", or possibly " Carum carvi var. peregrinum " - the epithet is not absolutely in alignment in the column with the previous epithet, i.e. "carvi" , which led Rickett (in Lloydia 18: 54. 1955) to query this. The epithet "peregrinum" is followed by "(u)" , which provides a link to a footnote which reads as follows: "(u) Carvi peregrinum difficile determinatur; duplo majus est Carvo Carvi dicto, ex australibus terris allatum.". There is nothing in the footnote that could serve as a validating description, and Carum peregrinum (or C. carvi var. peregrinum ) must therefore be regarded as a nomen nudum.
