Species of the bee genus Centris Fabricius, 1804 described by Heinrich Friese (Hymenoptera: Apidae) Author Vivallo, Felipe text Zootaxa 2020 2020-07-28 4820 2 231 259 journal article 8979 10.11646/zootaxa.4820.2.2 ca61a8c2-3bad-455c-981c-7d3d9cfe9917 1175-5326 4397626 D94FB21E-1CED-4D21-950A-A4E68D42EF9D Centris erubescens Friese, 1925 Centris costaricensis var. erubescens Friese, 1925: 30 , 31. Type data: This species was described, as a variety, based on two male specimens collected by the same collector and in the same locality than C . costaricensis but in different dates. One of the syntypes is currently housed at ZMB and the other is in the AMNH . The specimen from the former collection is here designated the lectotype and it has the following data label: Costa Rica S. José 5-XI-22 Bignonia muricata [handwritten\ C . costaricensis v. erubescens Fr. [handwritten]\ Friese det. 25 [printed]\ [red label] Type [printed]\ Coll. Friese [printed]\ [bluish ink] Zool. Mus. Berlin [printed] ( ZMB ). Paralectotype male with the following data label: Costa Rica S. José 5-XI-22 Bignonia muricata [handwritten\ C . costaricensis v. erubescens Fr. [handwritten]\ Friese det. 25 [printed]\ ac.290.69 [handwritten] ( AMNH ). Type locality: Costa Rica : San José department: San José . Comments: Centris costaricensis is a junior primary homonym of a species described by Crawford (1907) which is currently considered a junior synonym of C . vittata Lepeletier, 1841 . The type specimens of C . costaricensis and C . costaricensis erubescens are conspecific, and according to the Article number 60.1 of the ICZN (1999) this latter is the valid name of the species. Snelling (1984) proposed the synonymy between C . costaricensis erubescens and C . vittata . He assumed that the species described by Friese (1925) was conspecific with the one described by Crawford (1907) but without studying any type specimen. This mistake was emended by Moure et al . (2007) who revalidated the name C . erubescens raising it at species level.
