(
Figs. 134–138
)
Ozineus

.
Type
species
—
Ozineus elongatus Bates, 1863
(subsequent designation,
Thomson, 1864: 322
).
Diagnosis.
Lateral tubercles of the prothorax distinct, placed at posterior third; elytra with centrobasal crest, with erect setae on top; femora clavate; ovipositor moderately projected beyond the elytral apex. Number of species currently included: 1.
Remarks.
As seen above, the other species of this genus were transferred to
Sternacutus
, only the
type
species remaining in
Ozineus
. The genus can be included in the alternative of couplet “25” from
Monné
et al.
(2020)
:
25(23). Pronotum with tubercles............................................................
Leptocometes
Bates, 1881
– Pronotum without tubercles.................................................................................25’
25’(25). Femora pedunculate-clavate.......................................................
Onalcidion

– Femora clavate............................................................................
Ozineus
Bates, 1863
Note: The discovery of the presence of erect setae on the elytra of
Ozineus
makes the validity of
Onalcidion
as a distinct genus very questionable. This is because, apparently, there are no differences securely separating these two genera. However, a full revision of these genera will be necessary to confirm or not the synonymy.
