Abdomen:
Elongate, black. Tergites 3–5 with brown lateral marks. Syntergite 1+2 with thin setae over the entire surface. Tergites 4–5 setulose laterally, with 2 pairs of long and developed setae. Sternite 1 densely setulose. Sternite 5 wider than long, V-shaped, covered with setulae on posterior margin, with stronger setae at apex (

Fig. 61
); bacilliform process present, hook-shaped; hypandrium and associated structures with a trident-shaped as in
Fig. 71
.
Female:
Unknown.
Biology:
According to label data,
Fannia spinosa
sp. nov.
, is associated with decomposed organic matter in secondary forests and synanthropics environments between at
1840–1943 m
.
Comments:
Fannia spinosa
sp. nov.
can be easily separated from the remaining species of
Fannia
known by the projection with 5–7 spines on ventral surface of the surstylus. The male of
Fannia spinosa
sp. nov.
is close to
Fannia hirtifemur
(Stein)
but differs in the shape of bacilliform process. The combinations of characters of this species make it difficult to include it in any known group of
Fannia
.
Etymology:
The species epithet,
spinosa
,
refers to the ventral spines of the surstylus, characteristic of this species. Noun in apposition.
