Description.
Twining liana to several metres; stems woody, glabrous, pale, reported to have abundant white latex. Leaves petiolate, 5-13

3-10 cm, deltoid, base rounded, truncate or cordate, apex acuminate, margin undulate, both surfaces glabrous; petioles 2-9.5 cm. Inflorescence of pedunculate axillary cymes; peduncles 2.5-7 cm; bracteoles caducous; secondary peduncles 12-15 mm; pedicels 5-15 mm; sepals subequal, 6-7(-8)

4 mm, ovate to suborbicular, obtuse (outer) to rounded (inner), reddish, glabrous, the margins scarious; corolla 4-4.5 cm long, subcylindrical but slightly widened upwards, curved, red, glabrous, limb deeply divided with oblong, apiculate lobes c. 3-4

1.5 cm; stamens shortly exserted. Capsules ovoid, 14

Distribution.
Widely distributed from the eastern part of Hispaniola through Puerto Rico and south through the Windward Islands to Tobago. It grows in moist forest and around mogotes. Absent from Barbados and Trinidad.

Very similar to
Ipomoea microdactyla
but sepals 6-7(-8) mm, corolla narrowly tubular, curved. limb <1 cm long, deeply lobed with oblong-ovate, acute lobes.
