Common name : Pr: Hilisha, Sobour, Zobur, En: Indian shad, River shad. Diagnosis : A terminal mouth, last dorsal fin ray not filamentous, belly with 30 to 33 scutes. Distinct median notch in upper jaw. Gill rakers fine and numerous, about 100 to 250 on lower part of arch. Fins hyaline. A dark blotch behind gill opening, followed by a series of small spots along flank in juveniles. Color in life, silver shot with gold and purple. Meristic characters : D: IV–V 12–14, A: II–III 14–16, P: 12–15, V: 7, GR: 240–280, LL: 44–51, TV:?. Distribution : Tigris, Persis and maybe Hormuz and Makran basins ( Fig. 44 ) Taxonomy: Rahman (1989) placed this species in genus Hilsa but Whitehead et al. (1988) transferred this species to Tenualosa . Conservation : IUCN: Least Concern (Freyhof 2014ai).
