Synonymy: No generic synonyms. Phylogenetic position: Distigmoptera has been traditionally placed in the subtribe Monoplatina , which has been confirmed as monophyletic in our analysis. We found Distigmoptera as sister to the clade containing moss-inhabiting Andersonaltica and Ulrica . Diversity and distribution: A total of 16 species of Distigmoptera are known, including one in Canada , two in Costa Rica , three in Mexico and one in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico . Nine Distigmoptera species occur in the USA ( Riley et al. , 2003 ).
