The genus is widespread through the neotropics with species recorded from the Antilles, Argentina , Bolivia , Brazil , Colombia , Costa Rica , Dominica , Dominican Republic , Ecuador , French Guiana, Guatemala , Guyana , Honduras , Jamaica , Mexico , Nicaragua , Panama , Paraguay , Puerto Rico , Peru , Surinam , Trinidad and Tobago , Uruguay , Venezuela , Virgin Islands , and West Indies ( Metcalf 1963a ; Duffels & van der Laan 1985 ; Sanborn 2006a ; 2007a ; 2007b ; 2008a ; 2010a ; 2011a; 2011b; 2013).
