Type species: Bembidium virens Gyllenhal, 1827 by original designation. Etymology. From the Greek blepharis (eyelash) and the generic name Plataphus [ q.v .], alluding to the transverse row of small setae on the abdominal sternites (" wimperartiger Haerchen vor dem Hinterrande der Abdominal sternite ") of the adult [masculine]. Parataphus Jedlicka , 1932: 38. Type species: Bembidion heyrovskyi Jedlicka , 1932 by monotypy. Synonymy established by Toledano (2008: 10, 23). Etymology. From the Greek para (near, next to) and the last two syllables of the genus-group name Notaphus [ q.v .] [masculine]. Diversity. Northern Hemisphere, with five species in the Nearctic (one Holarctic species) and Palaearctic (five species) Regions. Identification. Lindroth (1963b: 297-298) covered the species found in North America. Taxonomic Note. This taxon is listed as a junior synonym of Trichoplataphus Netolitzky by some authors (e.g., Kryzhanovskij et al. 1995: 84). Toledano (2000: 36-37) discussed the taxonomic status of both taxa. According to Maddison (2012: 569), Blepharoplataphus is closely related to the subgenus Plataphus .
