U.S.A. , north to Oregon and Colorado , south to Sinaloa and Nuevo Leon ( Mexico ). COMMENT: Includes baileyi , fulvus , suboles, harquahalae, pectoralis, and lachuguilla; see Anderson, 1966 , Syst. Zool., 15: 189- 198, and Hoffmeister, 1969 , Misc. Publ. Univ. Kans. Mus. Nat. Hist., 51:75-91, who revised this species. Hoffmeister, 1969 , found evidence of hybridization between bottae and umbrinus in Sycamore Canyon, Arizona; he provisionally considered bottae and umbrinus distinct species. Hall, 1981:469 , reported evidence of intergradation in Nuevo Leon ( Mexico ), reviewed Hoffmeister, 1969 , and included bottae in umbrinus .
