Africa, Leguminosae 4: 756. 1971), followed by many authors, treated material in Sloane's herbarium as lectotype . However, these specimens were never studied by Linnaeus and are not original material for the name. Stearn had in any case previously designated a Hortus Cliffortianus illustration as type.
