Revision of the Oriental and Afrotropical species of Cheumatopsyche Wallengren (Hydropsychidae, Trichoptera) Author Oláh, János Author Johanson, Kjell Arne Author Barnard, Peter C. text Zootaxa 2008 2008-03-31 1738 1 171 journal article 11755334 Cheumatopsyche akisena Oláh & Johanson , new species Fig. 313–316 This species is similar to C. maculipennis Ulmer from Borneo, but C. akisena is easily separated from C. maculipennis by the strongly tapering apex of segment X. In addition, the harpagones of C. akisena have a deep, subapical excision on the dorsal margin, partly encircled by a small digitiform process. Male. Body and wings light brown with brown pubescence; wings with no spots. Maxillary palp segment I shortest, segment II longer, segments III and IV equally long, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Head dorsum brown, with 5 lighter warts. Proepisternum without swollen setal wart. Protarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Forewing length 6.0 mm, hind wing length 4.6 mm . Hind wing fork I absent. Male genitalia. Segment IX fused annularly; sternum about 2 times longer than tergum ( Fig. 313 ); ventrocaudal spiny lobes absent; anterior margins of segment IX straight; apical lobes on posterolateral margins right-angled, triangular, bordering wide and deep articulation cavity of coxopodites ( Fig. 313 ); spine row on posterior margins of segment IX interrupted; spines on apicodorsal spiny lobes stouter and 2 times longer than other spines. Intersegmental step between segment IX and segment X filled by elevated dorsum of segment X. Segment X long, with strongly dorsad, hook-shaped apex ( Fig. 313 ) formed by apicoventral setal lobes; in dorsal view ( Fig. 314 ) apex strongly tapering. Setaless mesocaudal lobe reduced. Lateral setose areas forming pair of elevated warts located centrally on segment X, clearly visible in dorsal and lateral view ( Fig. 313, 314 ). Dorsal and lateral interlobular gaps absent. Transverse sutures very broad, running obliquely above lateral setose areas ( Fig. 313 ). Narrow, sclerotised longitudinal sutures forming continuation of dorsal margins of ventroapical setal lobes ( Fig. 313 ); meeting transverse sutures at posterior margin of segment IX. Coxopodites narrowing immediately after bases ( Fig. 313, 314 ), before strongly widening apically in lateral view ( Fig. 313 ), slightly widening apically in ventral view ( Fig. 314 ); slightly exceeding apex of segment X. Harpagones basally broad before narrowing at mid-length; apices curving dorsad, with posterior incision ( Fig. 313 ); in ventral view nearly straight, with parallel-lateral margins ( Fig. 314 ). Phallotheca narrowing towards distal two-thirds ( Fig. 316 ) before broadening with ventral keel from distal one-third; sclerotised endothecal process almost circular, somewhat elongated; phallotremal sclerites rounded; vestigial ventral endothecal membranous lobe not visible. Holotype male: MALAYSIA : Borneo : Sabah , Sipitang , Mendolong Nersery , 5.iv.1988 , light [ S. Adebratt ] ( NRM , alcohol) Distribution: Malaysia (Borneo: Sabah ). Etymology: after the hook-shaped segment X, hook “akisena” in Sanscrit.
