Diagnosis.
Medium-sized epedanids, dorsal scutum pyriform, ocularium with a long median spine. Opisthosomal region of scutum with five areas, unarmed except for rows of hair-tipped granules. Coxa IV enormously expanded and with many hair-tipped tubercles. Proximal segment of chelicera with bulla. Pedipalpal femur with 4–5 setiferous tubercles ventrally, and with two setiferous tubercles on medial side distally. Tarsi III–IV of leg with bare double claws, without scopulae. Distitarsi of the first and second tarsi with two tarsalia. Shaft of penis widened distally. Ventral plate conspicuous. Follis immovable, partly sunken into truncus. Ovipositor with four ventral and six dorsal setae. Secondary sexual characters in males include ventral spine or enlarged tubercle of the leg IV, and a remarkably enlarged median spine of the free tergite III (only
P. caudatus
and
P. corneus

).
