Paraguay ( Cordillera : Caacupé: Cabañas, Piribebuy, San Bernardino). Comments. Of the 16 paratypes ( 10 males and six females ) mentioned in the original description ( Lindner 1976: 3 ), two males and one female are deposited in the SMNS collection and all the remaining paratypes are in the NMW collection. The additional female herein provided ( Fig. 97 ) is darker than the female paratype ( Figs 39–40 ), particularly in the posterior part of the scutum, where the dark macula reaches the extreme base of the scutellum, and also the new specimen is darker over the abdomen, with dark markings reaching the lateral margins of tergites 2–5. As the leg coloration and the overall color pattern over the head and thorax are the same in the two specimens , we considered these differences in color intensity as an intraspecific variation. The genus Odontomyia Meigen, 1803 is found in all the biogeographic regions and comprises more than 200 species ( Woodley 2001 , 2009). As the genus was based on a Palearctic species and occur worldwide, the limits of the genus require revision, and the Neotropical species of the genus might be placed somewhere else.
