Dermestes (Dermestinus) hankae
Hava
, 1999:
Hava
2007
: 301.
Dermestes (Dermestinus) hankai
[sic!]
Hava
, 1999:
Zhantiev 2011a
.
Material examined.
Italy mer. [= southern Italy], [no other data], 1 ♂ (JHAC).
Chorotype.
W-Mediterranean: Spain, France, Italy and Algeria (
Hava
2007
,
Prieto and
Hava
2013
).
Italian distribution.
Italy (without further details) (
Hava
2007
). Italian mainland (
Zhantiev 2011a
).
Remarks.
Species described from southern France (
Hava
1999
: 143); the generic record for Italy (
Hava
2007
) was based on the above specimen.
The specific name (
hankae
) is correct (
ICZN 1999
, art. 31.1.2), so the name
hankai
is only a subsequent incorrect spelling.
This species is very similar to
Dermestes
(Dermestinus) pardalis
Billberg, 1808 (
Hava
1999
,
Herrmann and Bahillo de la Puebla 2003
, Prieto and
Hava
2013
); the re-examination of specimens attributed to it could provide additional records of
Dermestes (Dermestinus) hankae
. In Italy,
Dermestes (Dermestinus) pardalis
is recorded from Sardinia (cf.
Hava
and Nardi 2011
), generically from mainland Italy (
Zhantiev 2011a
), and from a non-specified locality of the northern mainland (
Giachino 1982
: 360, as
Dermestes thoracicus
Dejean[, 1821 (nomen nudum)]), but this record, based on very old specimens, should be confirmed.
