Collection and habitat data. Little is known about the habitat assciations of members of this genus, especially in North America ( Smetana 1982 ). Species from the Palaearctic have been collected from hollows of trees and stumps and in litter at bases of dead trees; some species occur regularly in bird nests in hollow trees and are often observed among ants ( Smetana 1982 ). In New Brunswick, one specimen was collected from the nest contents of a barred owl ( Strix varia Barton), one from under the bark of a large, dead, fungus-covered basswood ( Tilia americana L.) log, and another from a Lindgren funnel trap deployed in mature (old) red oak ( Quercus rubra L.) forest. One specimen was collected in association with an ant, Formica subsericea Say, in Iowa City, Iowa ( Smetana 1982 ). Adults were collected during May and September. Distribution in Canada and Alaska. ON, NB ( Smetana 1988 ). Map 4. Collection localities in New Brunswick, Canada of Hypnogyra gularis .
