DIAGNOSIS: This genus corresponds to the
conospermi
species group of Houston (1989). Aside from the characters outlined in the various couplets of the above key that lead to the genus, other noteworthy traits include the serrate inner metatibial spur of females, the ventrally bowed prementum, and the sparse metatibial scopa with bifurcate or trifurcate setae.
ETYMOLOGY: The new genus-group name is taken from
Conospermum
Sm.
(
Proteaceae
:
Proteoideae
: Conospermeae) and the Latin noun
apis
(meaning, “bee”). The gender of the name is feminine.
