Discussion.
The taxon is the
type
species of
Clydostomus
Konow, 1908
.
Malaise (1945)
synonymized it with
Tenthredo
,
and, based on the tridentate clypeus, within this genus with
Fethalia
Cameron, 1902
(
type
species
T. opposita
,
see also discussion under
inguinalis
). But because of its rather different appearance it seems unlikely that
cestatus
is closely related to the group of
T. opposita
. In the course of a future reclassification of
Tenthredo
s.l.
,
Clydostomus
(which is older than Rohwer’s, Malaise’s, and Zhelochovtsev’s genus group names in
Tenthredo
s.l.
) might be used again. Currently, the species is not placed in a subgenus. See also under
Clydostomus merceti
.
