Polyrhachis (Myrma) militaris subspecies cupreopubescens variety dido
, new name
This name is suggested to replace
argentatus Stitz
, which is preoccupied by
P. argentatus F. Smith
[=
Formica argentata Fabricius
=
P. sexspinosa (Latreille)
].
I possess two workers of this beautiful variety from Mt. Coffee, Liberia, collected by R. P. Currie. The thorax, petiole, coxae, and ventral portions of the gaster are covered with dense, brilliant, silver pubescence, the upper surface of the gaster with brilliant golden pubescence as in
cupreopubescens
. The lateral spines of the petiole are very short.
