Pericarp with 1-layered mesocarp. Seed narrowly cylindrical to narrowly pyramidal; aril tubular without lobes or with two string-shaped straight lobes.

Tubularia
comprises 17 species. It is characterized by having fruits with a one-layered mesocarp with unsclerified cells, and tubular arils with laterally united lobes. These features are apomorphic for this section (
Hagberg 1990b
).
