Andropogon nardus
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
2
: 1046. 1753
.
"Habitat in
India
." RCN: 7559.
Lectotype
(Clayton & Renvoize in Polhill,
Fl. Trop. E. Africa,
Gramineae
3: 764. 1982): Herb. Hermann 2: 66, No. 45 (BM-000594628)
.
Current name:
Cymbopogon nardus
(L.) Rendle
(
Poaceae
).
Note:
Although Stapf (in
Bull. Misc. Inform. Kew
1906: 314. 1906) refers to
Hermann's
specimen at BM "on which the species finally rests", and (p. 354) "based on
Hermann's
specimen of
'Pengriman.'
- Original at the British Museum", this is not accepted as formal typification, and nor is
Soenarko's
statement (in
Reinwardtia
9: 349. 1977) "Type: Ceylon,
Hermann's
specimen", due to the absence of any indicated herbarium. The earliest explicit choice appears to be that of Clayton & Renvoize.
