Hampson (1901) and Wei et al. (2019b) all considered Syfania oberthueri as the synonym of S. giraudeaui without examining the genitalia. However judging from the figure illustrated in Jordan (1907) and the key in Kiriakoff (1977a) , it seems that this taxon still differs from S. giraudeaui considerably and therefore it is still treated as a bona species here, following Kiriakoff (1977a) . Further studies are needed to clarify its true status.
