Distribution: western Atlantic off the southeastern United States from Cape Lookout, North Carolina , to Dry Tortugas , Florida ; also, based on a photograph of a fish caught in Norfolk Canyon, may range as far north as Virginia Beach, Virginia , ( Anderson & Heemstra, 2012: 86 ).
