sp. n.
, abdominal structures (female: Costa Rica). 3.11, terminalia dorsal; 3.12, terminalia ventral; 3.13, spermathecae and spermathecal ducts; 3.14, terminalia lateral.
Etymology:
This species is the largest, most heavy-bodied species of
Bromeloecia
. Thus, the name refers to the body size (Latin ‘magnus’: large, great).
Comments:
B. magna
is found at relatively high elevations in the mountain ranges of
Costa
Rica
and northern
Panama
. It is the largest species of
Bromeloecia
. Although
B. magna
and
B. abundantia
differ widely in body size, they are very similar in external characters (to differentiate the two, see comments below the description of
B. abundantia
)
. Male cerci of
B. magna
are always flexed inwards in dry specimens.
