Anisophyllea quangensis Engler ex Henriques (1899: 76) ( Figure 108 ) Type :— ANGOLA . Lunda Norte : Cahungula , Rio Lovo , 07°30’S 20°20’E , November 1885 , S . Marques 216 ( holotype COI-00005680!) . Small shrubs 30–80 cm tall, with many stems, bark smooth or rarely rough and brownish; young branches sparsely tomentose with brownish, slightly twisted hairs to 0.4(–0.8) mm long, glabrescent when mature; buds densely tomentose. Leaves petiolate, petiole 2–4 mm long, 1.0– 1.4 mm in diam, tomentose; leaf blade lanceolate, elliptic or oblanceolate, or rarely obovate, 4–8 cm long, 1.5–3.5 cm wide, base symmetric or ±asymmetric, narrowly acute, apex acute or obtuse, ± apiculate, or rarely rounded, thinly coriaceous, green or greenish-brown and lustrous adaxially, yellowish-brown or yellowish-green and matte abaxially, tomentose when young, thinly tomentose or glabrescent when mature; main longitudinal veins 5–7, lateral main veins merged with midrib at 0.8–1.2 cm above blade base before separated, two outer lateral veins starting from or a little above base, outermost two main veins (if 7 mains veins present) very fine, most often disappearing at upper portion of blade margins, distinctly prominent on both surfaces; transverse veins sub-parallel or irregular, at angles of 55°–85° with midrib; veinlets reticulate, prominent on both sides. MONOGRAPH OF ANISOPHYLLEACEAE Phytotaxa 229 (1) © 2015 Magnolia Press • 143 glabrous adaxially, tomentose abaxially; flower buds sub-globose, tomentose; flowers bisexual, 4(–5)-merous, sessile; sepals ±triangular, 1.6–2.0 mm long, base a little connate?abaxially tomentose with brownish tortuous hairs ca. 0.16 mm long; petals to 3 mm long, yellowish, proximally entire, obovate, ca. 0.13 mm wide at base, and to 0.7 mm wide at potion where lobes starting, glabrous, distally 3-lobed, with central lobe slender and entire, lateral lobes broader and further 2–3-laciniate; stamens 8(–10), filaments to 2 mm long, subulate, slightly incurved, anthers ca. 0.5 mm long, broadly ellipsoid; disk lobes slightly bulged between stamens and embracing styles, pubescent; styles 4(–5), free, to 1.1 mm long, base conical, 0.25 mm in diam., distally attenuate, pubescent with yellowish hairs ca. 0.1 mm long. Fruit a drupe, ellipsoid, to 3.5 cm long, 1.5 cm in diam., attenuate toward both ends, reddish, apex with persistent floral parts. Flowering and fruiting: —June–October. Habitat and distribution: —Scrublands; 700–1000 m . Angola ( Cabinda , Lunda Norte ), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kinshasa) ( Figure 109 ). Local usage: —Fruits edible. Taxonomic notes: —With limited materials with both flowers and fruits, it is difficult to distinguish this species with Anisophyllea poggei , and/or even with A. dichostila . The diagnostic characters in the key use the size and shape of styles are temporary, and further investigations are needed to verify the identity of this species.
