Rubi Capenses: a further contribution to the knowledge of the genus Rubus (Rosaceae) in South Africa Author Beek, Abraham Van De text Phytotaxa 2021 2021-08-19 515 1 1 71 http://dx.doi.org/10.11646/phytotaxa.515.1.1 journal article 10.11646/phytotaxa.515.1.1 1179-3163 8061143 Section Ursini Focke (1902: 448) . Type :— Rubus ursinus Chamisso & Schlechtendal (1827: 11) Rubus sect. Ursini is a remarkable section within Rubus , because of its semi-heteroecious character. Some plants have flowers with very short more or less abortive stamens and fertile ovaries, other ones have long stamens with fertile anthers and often sterile ovaries. However, this is not fully consistent, because the respectively abortive anthers and ovaries are not always fully sterile and sometimes even fully fertile, depending on the species; the natural species, in this case R. macropetalus , are more consistent than the hybridogenous taxa in this regard. When exposed to the sun, the stems are usually somewhat pruinose. Three representatives of this section were found in South Africa .
