Petrolisthes lindae
Gore & Abele, 1974
Petrolisthes lindae
Gore & Abele 1974: 564
, figs. 2, 3D, G;
Gore 1982: 16
;
Abele & Kim 1989: 21
.
Material examined
. None.
Previous records from
Panama
.
Gore & Abele (1974
,
1976
);
Gore (1982)
;
Abele & Kim (1989)
.
Distribution
. East Pacific:
Panama
(
Panama
Canal area,
Ciudad de Panamá
) (
Gore 1982
).
Ecology
. Largely intertidal; within or on the fringe of red mangrove swamps, apparently able to tolerate very low salinities (
Gore & Abele 1974
).
Remarks
.
Petrolisthes lindae
is largely sympatric with the closely related
P. armatus
,
P. nobilii
Haig, 1960
(see below) and
P. robsonae
Glassell, 1945
(see below). However,
P. lindae
has just one tooth and a lobe on the P1 carpus (
vs.
two or three teeth, as in the other species); the epibranchial tooth is either vestigial or absent (
vs.
distinct in the other species); and the granulation of the carapace slightly from each of the other three species (
Gore & Abele 1974
,
1976
). The closeness of
P. lindae
to these three species led
Gore & Abele (1974
,
1976
) question whether a hybridisation between two of the above species may have occurred in the past, resulting in
P. lindae
. Adults of
P. lindae
and
P. robsonae
, as well as juveniles of
P. lindae
,
P. armatus
and
P. robsonae
, are particularly difficult to tell apart (
Abele & Kim 1989
).
