This species was originally described from Troglodytes troglodytes (Linnaeus) ( Troglodytidae ) from Germany ( Fritsch 1958 ). N . troglodytis comb. nov. was also reported from Phylloscopus collybita (Vieillot) (Sylviidae) from France ( Bochkov & Mironov 1998 ) but in the publication of Bochkov et al. (2001), the specimens found on this host species were described as Syringophilopsis phylloscopi Bochkov, Mironov et Skoracki, 2001 (Bochkov et al. 2001) . Currently, N. troglodytis comb. nov. is known from two hosts: T. troglodytes from Germany , and Poland ( Fritsch 1958 ; Skoracki 2004) and from T. aedon (Vieillot) from Canada ( Bochkov & Galloway 2001 ).
