Description
.
Male
. Frons, anteclypeus, labrum and genae light reddish-brown except dark brown apex of genae; postclypeus light reddish-brown on wide central area, dark brown laterally; vertex black except oblique light reddish-brown band on each side, from apex of upper eye lobes to prothoracic margin; mandibles light reddishbrown on basal third, gradually dark toward black distal half; mouthparts yellowish-brown; antennae black, with some reddish areas ventrally; pronotum black centrally, light reddish-brown laterally; sides of prothorax black, reddish close to pronotum; prosternum dark brown except reddish-brown prosternal process; ventral side of mesothorax dark brown except dark reddish-brown mesosternal process; metepisternum and sides of metasternum black; wide central area of metasternum reddish-brown, lighter toward metacoxal cavities; elytra violaceous (lighter on wide distal band) except light reddish-brown area involving humerus, not reaching scutellum, reaching epipleura and projected backward along epipleura, and wide, slightly oblique yellow band, from epipleura to suture, placed at about midlength; pro- and mesocoxae reddish-brown; metacoxae reddish-brown close to trochanter, gradually black toward sides; femora black, gradually reddish-brown toward ventral side (except entirely black distal area of meso- and metafemora); tibiae and tarsi black; abdominal ventrites dark brown, gradually reddish toward V, except dark brown distal third of ventrite V.
Head
. Frons with yellow pubescence obscuring integument, interspersed with long, erect, sparse brown setae near eyes. Vertex distinctly longitudinally sulcate between antennal tubercles and upper eye lobes; finely, moderately abundantly punctate; with dark brown pubescence partially obscuring integument (interspersed with long, suberect yellow setae), except glabrous longitudinal sulcus and yellow pubescence on oblique light reddishbrown bands. Antennal tubercles with brown pubescence partially obscuring integument, more bristly toward apex. Area behind eyes moderately finely, abundantly punctate; with brown pubescence not obscuring integument, except yellow pubescence toward distal area of lower eye lobe. Genae with yellow pubescence partially obscuring integument, except glabrous dark area. Postclypeus with yellow pubescence partially obscuring integument, laterally interspersed with long, sparse, erect yellow setae, except glabrous dark area. Labrum coplanar with anteclypeus on basal half, inclined on distal half; with sparse yellow pubescence interspersed with long, suberect yellow setae. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.15 times length of scape; distance between lower eye lobes in frontal view 0.60 times length of scape. Antennae 1.2 times elytral length, reaching elytral apex. Antennomere III with dense, suberect setae dorsally and laterally, distinctly longer on base of inner side, and gradually longer from midlength of inner edge; ventral side with whitish pubescence, except black, sparse, decumbent setae near apex; with long, erect, sparse black setae ventrally. Antennomere IV with dense, suberect setae dorsally and laterally on basal half (longer on inner side), with dark brown pubescence partially obscuring integument dorsally and laterally on distal half, with whitish pubescence ventrally; with long, erect, sparse dark brown setae ventrally. Remaining antennomeres with dark brown pubescence partially obscuring integument (antennomere V with sparse whitish pubescence ventrally); with long, erect, sparse dark brown setae (gradually shorter, sparser toward X). Antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.48; pedicel = 0.13; IV = 0.42; V = 0.29; VI = 0.27; VII = 0.26; VIII = 0.24; IX = 0.22; X = 0.20; XI = 0.22.
Thorax
. Prothorax slightly narrowed from base to apex. Pronotum centrally longitudinally elevated, carinashaped (wider on basal half); on each side of midlength with oblique, slightly elevate gibbosity; coarsely, abundantly punctate; central dark area with short, yellowish-brown pubescence distinctly exposing integument (slightly more distinct and yellow on carina-shaped area); sides with dense yellow pubescence except narrow distal area with yellowish-brown pubescence exposing integument (continuing pubescence on side of prothorax).
Sides
of prothorax coarsely, abundantly punctate; with yellowish-brown pubescence exposing integument. Prosternum moderately finely, abundantly punctate near procoxal cavities, smoother toward head; with yellowish-brown pubescence exposing integument; prosternal process with pale yellow pubescence not obscuring integument. Mesosternum finely, sparsely punctate; with pale yellow pubescence not obscuring integument (less conspicuous centrally). Metepisternum and sides of metasternum with pale yellowish-brown pubescence partially obscuring integument; central area of metasternum with pale yellow pubescence partially obscuring integument. Scutellum centrally slightly longitudinally depressed; with yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument.
Elytra
. Coarsely, abundantly punctate from base to transverse yellow band (punctures slightly finer toward yellow band), finely rugose after yellow band; with dense yellow pubescence on basal light area, dense pale yellow pubescence on transverse band, and yellowish-brown pubescence distinctly exposing integument on dark areas, interspersed with moderately short, erect, dark setae.
Legs
. Femora with pale yellow pubescence, denser ventrally on basal 3/4. Tibiae with dark brown pubescence interspersed with long, suberect, abundant dark brown setae (also with sparse erect dark brown setae).
Abdomen
. Ventrites I–IV minutely, slightly conspicuously punctate; ventrite V finely, abundantly punctate on dark apical area; with yellowish-brown pubescence exposing integument, interspersed with long, erect, sparse pale yellow and dark brown setae (more abundant on distal dark area of ventrite V); apex of ventrite V distinctly emarginate.

Remarks
.
Apeba herrerae
sp. nov.
is similar to
A. barauna
Martins & Galileo, 1991
, but differs primarily by antennomere IV distinctly shorter than V–VI together (almost as long as V–VII together in
A. barauna
).
