Oxus longisetus
(Berlese, 1885)
Oxus koenikei
Thor, 1899
, nov. syn.
Discussion:
The description by
Thor (1899)
is not sufficient to allow an identification of the species.
Koenike (1905)
gave more extensive information, based on specimens still present in the Humboldt Museum in Berlin, but in a damaged state. He compared the species with
O. tenuisetis
Piersig
, a species with the setae on the tip of Cx-I shorter and blade-like.
Lundblad (1962)
considered the species possibly synonymous with
O. longisetus
. Indeed, the long setae at the tip of the first coxal plates of
O. koenikei
are similar to those of
O. longisetus
, and also the size falls within the range of the latter species. Therefore, we consider
O. koenikei
a junior synonym of
O. longisetus
.
