Ecology: —Locally common; terrestrial in humid forests, also in secondary habitats; to 700 m . Notes: Selaginella lechleri Hieron. from Colombia to Peru , may occur in Bolivia . It differs from S. anceps by its basally denticulate ( vs . ciliolate) median leaves, and ascending to spreading ( vs . appressed) leaves on the main stems just beyond the first branches, so that near the axil of the first branch the stems and leaves are broader ( 4–5 mm vs . 1–3 mm wide).
