The specimen here formally designated as the
lectotype
for
Carpophilus obscurus
does already bear an NHM “TYPE” label; however, there are many specimens bearing that label that may or may not correspond with the material used in the original description perfectly. Sharp stated he had three specimens at his disposal, one male and two females. In this case the specimen was verified as the male with matching locality information.
