Diagnosis.
Body elongate and wide, dark brown and red. Head black with narrow red stripes, eyes reddishbrown. Vertex finely sulcate medially, its base slightly carinate laterally. First antennal segment dark brown to black, elongate, club-like; second segment narrower, dark brown; other segments distinctly narrower than second at base. Labium reaching meso-coxae. Pronotal collar red, contrasting with head. Pronotal disk red, including areas of callosities. Femora black. Tibia and tarsus dark brown. Mesoscutum red, uncovered. Scutellum red, finely striate. Clavus red, shallowly and narrowly punctate. Endocorium and exocorium red. Cuneus red at base, dark brown medially and apically. Membrane dark brown, the veins red brown. Hemelytral pilosity short, recumbent, white.
Discussion.
The genus
Macrolygus
was erected by
Yasunaga (1992)
to accommodate his new species
M. viridulus
from
Japan
(
holotype
: Shikoku, Ehime Pref.), the type-species by original designation described in the same paper. “
Waucoris
”
rubrus
Carvalho, 1987
lacks the main character of the
Adelphocoris
-
Creontiades
-
Megacoelum
complex of genera, of which the true
Waucoris
are members. Particularly, the two last antennal segment of “
W
.”
rubrus
are narrower than the second and not almost of the same width. On the other hand, “
W
.”
rubrus
agrees with original description of
Macrolygus
by
Yasunaga (1992: 48-49)
in virtually all major characters. Consequently, we suggest the new combination.
