Distribution in Brazil : North and Central-West regions (PA, AM, MT) ( De Carlo 1970 ; Nieser 1975 ). Comments: This species was described based on specimens from “río Xingú, lago Canay-urá,” a locality that was associated with AM by De Carlo (1970) and Bachmann (1999) . The Xingu River flows from MT to PA, and does not run through AM. The term “Canay-urá” probably corresponds to Camaiurá [=Kamayura or Kamayurá], the name of an indigenous tribe which nowadays inhabits the northeastern portion of MT, where the lake on which the type-specimens were collected is probably located.
