Loxandrus breviusculus Casey, 1924:80 This taxon was described from a single specimen collected at «Dunedin, Florida ». The holotype , a female, is labelled «Dunedin, Fla W.S.B. Coll. 12-4-17/Casey bequest 1925/Type USNM 47350 / breviusculus Csy. [handwritten]/ UAIC 00044048 / holotype Loxandrus breviusculus by [handwritten] R . T . Allen» . The holotype (SBL ¼ 8.6 mm ; ABL ¼ about 8.8 mm ) is conspecific with specimens of L. floridanus LeConte, 1878 [NEW SYNONYMY]. This species belongs to the agilis group and is relatively easy to recognize by its large size ( 7.3–9.4 mm ), the infuscated femora and tibiae, the mentum without distinct foveal pits, the distinct microsculpture on the disc of pronotum, and the elytral epipleura not markedly sinuate at level of plicae.
