The <taxonomicName pageId="5" pageNumber="58" rank="subSpecies" subSpecies="remains">race remains</taxonomicName> rare in collections and apparently in nature; William Brandt did not record the species during his expedition to the Rawlinson Mts in 1968. </paragraph> <paragraph blockId="5.[189,1444,1107,1886]" pageId="5" pageNumber="58"> Specimens from Mt Hagen are similar to those from Mt Wilhelm & the <collectingRegion box="[1131,1364,1738,1768]" country="Papua New Guinea" name="Eastern Highlands" pageId="5" pageNumber="58">Eastern Highlands</collectingRegion> , both can be distinguished <emphasis box="[484,883,1777,1807]" italics="true" pageId="5" pageNumber="58">in the majority of individuals</emphasis> from the nominate subspecies - by the complete separation of the pale hindwing patch from the white costal border by the red and black subapical bands, and a more orange coloration of the forewing underside - and from ssp </paragraph> <paragraph blockId="6.[189,1443,208,394]" pageId="6" pageNumber="59"> <emphasis box="[189,318,208,238]" italics="true" pageId="6" pageNumber="59">huonensis</emphasis> by the narrower black margins on the both surfaces and the more elongated hind wing patch. Although these characters are consistent in the majority of specimens from central <collectingCountry box="[189,251,285,316]" name="Papua New Guinea" pageId="6" pageNumber="59">PNG</collectingCountry> , populations of the nominate <taxonomicName box="[658,789,286,316]" pageId="6" pageNumber="59" rank="subSpecies" subSpecies="from">race from</taxonomicName> various locations within Indonesian Papua show clinal development of the same features on a west - east axis. <taxonomicName authorityName="Jordan" authorityYear="1912" box="[1005,1180,325,355]" class="Insecta" family="Pieridae" genus="Delias" kingdom="Animalia" order="Lepidoptera" pageId="6" pageNumber="59" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="leucias"> <emphasis box="[1005,1180,325,355]" italics="true" pageId="6" pageNumber="59">Delias leucias</emphasis> </taxonomicName> from central <collectingCountry box="[1357,1415,325,356]" name="Papua New Guinea" pageId="6" pageNumber="59">PNG</collectingCountry> is considered to represent a recognizable geographic form of the nominate subspecies. </paragraph> </subSubSection> </treatment> </document>
