Remarks.
The species
E.
(
M.
)
clypeata
Qin & Zhang (2008)
is pre-occupied by
Empoasca clypeata
Gillette and
Baker
(1895)
. The latter was moved to the subgenus
Empoasca
(
Kybos
)
, by De Long (1931) and this has been accepted by most subsequent workers. Because
E. clypeata
Gillette and
Baker
(1895)
was validly published earlier,
E.
(
M.
)
clypeata
Qin & Zhang 2008
is a junior homonym according to Art. 57.2 and Art. 57.4 (ICZN 4th edition, 2000) (Dr Sterling Southern,
pers. comm.
2010).
Etymology.
The replacement name is an adjective derived from the Latin word “
clypealatus
” also refers to the peculiar clypellus of this species.
