In full-face view, frontal carinae straight, divergent posteriad; frontal lobes straight, elevated. Anteromedial clypeal margin narrowly convex and protruding, clypeal midpoint distinctly notched; clypeal psammophore set at or just above anterior clypeal margin; palp formula 6,4. Five mandibular teeth in minor worker; mandibles triangular, weakly incurved; third mandibular tooth distinctly shorter than apical tooth and teeth numbers two and four; masticatory margin of mandibles approximately vertical or weakly oblique. Mesosoma. Integument of pronotum, mesonotum and mesopleuron matt with indistinct shagreenate sculpture throughout; anterior mesosoma in profile broadly convex; appearance of erect pronotal setae short, (i.e., longest erect setae shorter than length of eye) and unmodified; in profile, metanotal groove shallow, broadly V or U-shaped; propodeum matt or with a weak sheen and indistinctly shagreenate; propodeum smoothly rounded or with indistinct angle; propodeal dorsum and declivity confluent; erect propodeal setae present and abundant (greater than 12); appressed propodeal setulae long and closely aligned, creating pubescence; propodeal spiracle situated at least twice its width from

This ant is differentiated from

in lacking the long, silky setae and the dentiform mandible, the mandible in this case being five-toothed. The lack of a thoracic hump also helps to separate the minor worker from the minor worker of
<taxonomicName lsidName="M. gibbosus" pageId="97" pageNumber="98" rank="species" species="gibbosus">M. gibbosus</taxonomicName>
. Most workers have bristly, erect setae on the antennae and tibiae. Workers collected in long grass near Dunham River, Western Australia, were extremely timid solitary foragers among (much more numerous) workers of
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Formicidae" genus="Iridomyrmex" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Iridomyrmex minor" order="Hymenoptera" pageId="97" pageNumber="98" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="minor">Iridomyrmex minor</taxonomicName>
, which they resemble in the field. The species is both genetically and morphologically closely related to

Abdomen greyish, without any pattern. Spinnerets uniformly dark yellowish. . Total length 11.0. Carapace 4.25 long, 3.16 wide. Eye diameters: AME 0.17, PME 0.18, PLE 0.15. Carapace and chelicerae dark reddish violet; sternum, labium, and maxillae reddish brown. Leg reddish brown. Abdomen greyish, without any pattern. Spinnerets uniformly greyish. Measurements of legs: I: 11.02 (3.15, 1.98, 2.59, 2.51, 0.79), II: 9.61 (2.72, 1.76, 2.32, 2.14, 0.67), III: 8.07 (2.27, 1.33, 1.62, 2.14, 0.71), IV: 10.54 (3.02, 1.66, 2.15, 2.89, 0.82). Spination: I: Fe: 3pl. II: Fe: 1pl. III: Fe: 1d; Ti: 4pl, 4rl; Mt: 12pl, 5rl, 4v. IV: Fe: 4d; Ti: 5pl, 4rl, 1v; Mt: 14pl, 9rl, 3v. Ti III-IV with a row of thin rigid ventral setae.
